Battery saving on Android: Simplified
The trend
Of course lowering screen brightness levels and turning mobile data off helps save juice on your device but there’s lot more going beneath the surface that is yet to be taken care of.
But ‘to know or not to know the advanced stuff is the question!

| CyanogenMod-12 (Falcon) |
Of course Android Lollipop comes with all these features or functions I’m going to talk about in which case, you might want to go find something else to do on the internet. Other folks, bear with me until the very end. You’re about to change the way you use your android device…

| No! This isn’t Touchwiz! |
1. Background tasks
These are those suckers that keep your processor from going to deep sleep when the screen is off and you’re pretty much doing nothing with your device.
The effect can be mainly seen on
Touchwiz used by SAMSUNG devices which is by the way, an awful skin!
1.1 Solution: Kill all those processes. But wait!
One way is ‘force stopping’ them one by one which could be a pain in the ass if you’re a frequent apps user and don’t belong to those group of folks who believe happiness is watching android perform while swiping between cards on the app drawer and on the home screen.
Greenify on the other hand, helps you do the job without having you do much besides setting things up and telling it what to do and what not.
When gained Root access (much on this later), Greenify can do wonders. But since this Blog is noob friendly, let’s just focus on providing simple Admin Privileges first.
1.2 Working mode: Accessibility
Provide it access to perform some operation on it’s own after setting it up for the first time and selecting apps that are NOT instant messaging apps (because then you’d have to check for messages on your own as those apps won’t be running, right?).
Doing this will let you force close all running apps all one by one without having you to do anything beyond tapping that widget you’d create on your home screen for faster access. Watch it work like magic!

1.3 Working mode: Root
Not so difficult as it sounds. The setup process is the same as in the above case except you’d be asked to grant root access if you’ve got it.
The rest is the same as tapping on that Greenify widget you’d be having sitting on your home screen waiting to be given the privilege to kill all the apps like a bad-ass terminator!
Pss… It does it on it’s own when the screen is off.
1.4 Working mode: Boost
Now this thing requires
Xposed Framework (more on this later), something beyond just root. The difference being Boost mode doesn’t take time (mainly a few seconds) a force closes apps in a flash!
Some apps make sure they’re not messed up with by apps like Clean Master by sitting on the notification bar. Boost mode let’s Greenify kill “Perciptible” apps with ease!
2. Background Mobile Data

Ever wonder how your data pack gets sucked up in a matter of weeks ending up in having you to spend a shitload of money on internet tariffs?
Processes mainly from Google are the main culprits here!
You can simply prevent such things happen by turning ON Background Data Restrictions. Period.
The rest is self explanatory…
The point was, Greenify kills apps and having background data restrictions ON, you are able to make it through the day with juice still left in double digits.
3. CPU Profiles: Root required
You can choose between ‘Performance’ and ‘Conservative’ profiles where ‘On-Demand’ is the default that any OS uses by default.
Changing clock speeds is one of the great advantages of having this handy-dandy tool installed on your device. Lower the clock speed, more juice out of each charge is the formula that should be kept in mind!
‘Performance’ profile keeps the processor at its peak for a couple of seconds should you choose to do something else after closing an app on the main thread, which by the way, could fetch you amazing multitasking and app switching response times. Well, watch the battery bar empty in no time then anything, but it’s the ‘TL;DR Wikipedia’ age and you’re one of those wonderful people who actually read long passages!
You could see that Greenify took the better part of this post and that’s because it helps you take control of what happens in your OS be it you’re gaming and want to eke out those extra frames or your device sleeps in your pocket for most of the time, yet drains battery pretty fast. The best part is, Greenify helps you gain Ultimate control even without root for most of us prefer Warranty, just in case…
